Brief Counsel congratulates Dublin City Council on winning 2010 Economic Efficiencies Award

Dublin City Council congratulated by Brief Counsel

(Friday 29th October) Brief Counsel, the firm which helps solicitors, companies and public bodies source and select barristers, today recognised the achievement of Dublin City Council in winning the Brief-Counsel-sponsored Economic Efficiencies Award at the 2010 Chambers Ireland Awards for Excellence in Local Government (ELG).

Director Hugh Kennedy congratulated DCC Head of Finance Kathy Quinn on the win and explained why the award was such a good fit for Brief Counsel; "I would like to acknowledge the effort and initiative shown by DCC with their initiative in winning this award and indeed all the finalists in this category. It is no secret that local governments, as with all organisations these days, need to look for efficiencies in the way they operate and this is an excellent example of this working in practice. This award is particularly close to our heart as Brief Counsel's business is built around encouraging efficiencies and local government is one of the key areas in which we are working.

He continued, "We are actively encouraging local authorities and state bodies to rethink the way in which they procure legal services including the services of barristers. There are huge efficiencies to be gained through utilising the services of a company such as Brief Counsel, which chooses barristers on the basis of their particular expertise and indeed value for money, rather than relying solely on the recommendation of a solicitor, which can be both be contrary to public procurement guidelines and more expensive."

The 2010 ELG Awards took place on Thursday 28th October in the Burlington Hotel, Dublin. The Awards celebrate excellence in the area of local government.
